Join our main event at Crossroads Community Center! Celebrate with live performances, hands-on activities, community ofrendas, food vendors and family-friendly fun honoring the traditions of Día de los Muertos. This event is part of the city's community-led, city-supported Cross-Cultural Center without Walls and is not hosted by the City of Bellevue.
Ways to Peace: The Art of Listening, Part 1
Attendance is required at all three sessions of this workshop, Oct. 27, 28 and Nov. 4, 5-7:30 p.m. There is lots of talk in the world, but who is listening? And do we really know how? In this highly interactive class, attend each class to become aware of habits we unconsciously have when it comes to listening (or not). We will learn ways to quiet our minds and focus on the person speaking and then respond and ask questions to help the other person feel heard, understood, and able to go deeper into what they are sharing with us. There is also a new focus to this popular class, “listening to differences,” which is not only beneficial to one’s brain health, but also that of our diverse community. Becoming more artful as a listener helps one in social interactions, builds confidence and calm within, and strengthens relationships with work, family, and friends. Latino H.E.A.T. Ofrenda Contest
View and vote for ofrendas created by local school teams while learning about Central American and Indigenous traditions of honoring and remembering loved ones during Día de los Muertos. Celebrate the rich cultural traditions behind this meaningful annual observance and enjoy a special performance by the Highland Middle School Mariachi group. This event is part of the city's community-led, city-supported Cross-Cultural Center without Walls and is not hosted by the City of Bellevue.
Interrelatedness: Fusion of Musical Traditions from East and West
Join us at the Market Stage at Crossroads Bellevue for short performances by cross-cultural artists and a chance to hear about their experiences blending musical styles from East and West. The Global Artists Collective is bringing together vocalists and instrumentalists from around the world to explore relationships among African, Indian, Jamaican and Venezuelan cultural traditions, along with the fusion of soul/R&B, jazz and hip-hop. Their credits include work with the Black Eyed Peas, Sly & Robbie, Waka Flocka, Tech N9ne, Amayenge, Kanda Bongo Man, F-Rock Crew, Staxx Brothers, Global Heat, Roger Fisher and the Human Tribe, among others.
